Job Opportunities (Paid and volunteer) to Organize for Power Shift 09 | Nov 06th 2008

The Power Shift ‘09 Steering Committee has created the following
structure of sub-committees to guide the planning of Power Shift ‘09.
Each of the following 5 sub-committees are led by co-chairs (one
coalition staff member and one coalition student). Each Sub-committee
ultimately reports to the Steering Committee, which is made up of both
staff and students.
Take a look at the Roles & Responsibilities document for a full
description of what each sub-committee is tasked to work on, and how
sub-committee members will be involved in Power Shift 09 planning.

How to join:
All calls are open to anyone who wants to join, however we are asking
for individuals who can make a COMMITMENT to regular participation.
If you can participate regularly in the call time listed below for the
sub-committee you are interested in contributing to, please complete
this QUICK form.

Summary Description: On February 27 – March 2, 2009, Energy Action Coalition is holding Power Shift 2009 at the Washington DC Convention Center. Power Shift 2009 is EAC’s 2nd national summit with expected attendance of 10,000 young people. Power Shift 2009 will be an opportunity for young people to share best practices, build community, learn skills and solutions, set clear and ambitious plans for climate action, and impel federal action to make it happen. Leveraging the momentum we’ve built through Power Shift 2007 (powershift07.org) and our national campaigns, the Campus Climate Challenge (www.ClimateChallenge.org) and Power Vote (www.PowerVote.org), the 49 partner organizations of the coalition are taking this momentum beyond our campuses to a key place where this crisis must be addressed: Washington, DC.

Summary Description: The Online Organizer will be responsible for working with our online team in developing and implementing online strategy for Energy Action Coalition and our campaigns. Energy Action utilizes strong online presence through our campaign websites, off site outreach and wholesale email and SMS communications to engage tens of thousands of young people in the youth climate movement. We work collaboratively with our 46 coalition partners to engage hundreds of local groups in our campaigns and our online tools and communications play a key role in connecting our broad network of supporters. Managing Director
Salary: Dependent on Experience

Summary Description: The Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing all staff support and management systems, managing the DC office administration, and will work closely with the Executive Director and Coalition Coordinator as a leadership team for the Energy Action Coalition. The Managing Director is a senior management position, responsible to and collaborating with the Executive Director on the financial management of the organization. The Managing Director is responsible for managing the operations of EAC in an effective and facilitative manner. S/he is concerned with the efficient and wise use of the EAC’s financial and
human resources to achieve their goals and objectives, by collaborating with the team to implement strategies, policies and programs, and supporting and supervising the staff, consistent with objectives, parameters, standards, and principles set by the Coalition’s Council. S/he will be responsible for directing the programs and administration, with the Executive Director and Partners Director, and for facilitating clear internal communication. The Managing Director will also support major fundraising efforts for the Energy Action Coalition.

Outreach and Environmental Justice Director

Summary Description: The Energy Action Coalition is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to serve as Outreach and Environmental Justice Director. This position will provide direct support to the environmental justice and economic justice organizations within the coalition, namely Environmental Justice and Climate Change Initiative,www.ejcc.org; Black Mesa Water Coalition, www.blackmesawatercoalition.org; Indigenous Environmental Network www.ienearth.org; League of Young Voters www.theleague.com; and organizations yet to join. This position will help grow the coalition by conducting extensive outreach to economic and environmental justice organizations and will serve as their primary point of contact with the coalition.
